ESPOL’s Office of Community Engagement promotes, plans, and coordinates the University’s engagement with society through eight multidisciplinary programs. These programs bring together faculty members and students to address local, regional, and national development needs sustainably, while promoting the transfer of knowledge, technology, and innovation.
What Are Community Engagement Programs?
ESPOL’s Office of Community Engagement defines institutional community engagement programs as coordinated groups of projects carried out by faculty members and students from different academic disciplines.
These programs seek to improve quality of life, protect the environment, promote productive development, and preserve culture and traditional knowledge. They are implemented through community service initiatives designed to support individuals, groups, and communities in vulnerable situations by developing solutions that generate meaningful and lasting impact.

What Is a Community Service Project
A community engagement project consists of a set of activities designed to improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups and contribute to achieving the overall objective of the institutional program to which it belongs. It also provides students with opportunities to complete their community service placements in real-life intervention settings, under the guidance of faculty members serving as project directors and tutors.
